The Housework Can Wait...

I have a little visitor today. My plans to clean and prepare for this weekend's onslaught have been put on the back burner... but that is okay. I would rather hang out with Halen.

This says it all....

"Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth, Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."

  3. When my children were youngsters, the dust often was left unattended, floors needed swept and scrubbed and laundry was always in a holding pattern due mainly to the fact I had to work two jobs to keep the roof over our heads and food on the table, etc. But today, my life is much -MUCH -different and I have time to arrange as I wish so I often can ignore those household chores and if I want, I can spend the minutes or even hours, as needed, just simply enjoying my grandchildren! I always loved that poem you quoted here too as it is sweet and wise too!
