My transition from cluttered to simple living.

Dear Drug and Alchol Induced, Brain Injured Person.

Thirty some odd years ago, you made a decision that would affect you...and everyone who loved you...for the rest of your life.  You have spent most of the last thirty years being cared for by others.

Today, you hurt me.  You attempted to leave the facility that was caring for you....and I tried to stop you from making a decision that might hurt you again.

You were angry.  You shouted obscenities at me.  You called me names that I have never been called before.  You threw yourself around in your wheelchair, and struck out at me repeatedly.  I dodged your fists, and I held your chair so it did not end up in the gutter.

I am sore now.  It hurts to pick up my grandson, and the moving that I am involved in is now complicated by a sore back...

I will continue to care for you.  I will forgive you your outbursts...give you candy and coffee...because that really is your only pleasure in life...and because, thirty some odd years ago, I made a decision of a much different kind.  I chose to become a nurse.

  3. I am ok... Just a little tender. I am more annoyed than anything else. I think it is time that I left nursing. Our government has changed the face of geriatric nursing. Now you cannot refuse patients, so we are getting younger patients that are unhappy being with people who are old enough to be their grandparents. It makes it hard on seniors who aren't used to the antics of some of these folks....not to mention their vocabulary at times.

  6. This sort of thing happened to my mother, she is a nurse. These are the hardest moments when you do the good work you know you are there to do, and in-spite of the risk of personal injury. If only folks who use could imagine this scenario while they indulge in risky behaviors...sigh. Hope you feel well again soon. Will be sending good vibes your way. :-D

  7. So sad to hear this Wendy. I'm sure it hurt your heart even more than it hurt you physically. Stay strong. Everything is changing and I really don't see that any of it is for the best.
Just think of all the people that you have touched that really appreciated it!! Don't let this get you too down.
